Traveling By RV: How to Reduce Your Expenses

Do you enjoy traveling? If you do, you may want to examine RV trips. Traveling by RV is not only a great way to get to your destination, but it is also a relatively affordable way to vacation and see all that the United States has to offer.

As previously stated, traveling by RV is a relatively affordable way to travel. With that being said, many are still concerned with the cost. Yes, traveling by RV can be an expensive venture, but there are steps that you can take to help reduce costs. Just a few of the many ways that you can help to reduce or at least limit the costs associated with traveling in a motor home are outlined below.

If you do not already own a motor home, you will want to consider all of your options. For starters, do you have a close friend or family member who would let you borrow their RV or even rent it? If so, this approach is often much cheaper than dealing with a professional RV rental company. Speaking of RV rentals, be sure to examine all of your options. If you have access to two or more motor home rental companies, be sure to compare prices. The largest expense of traveling in a motor home is renting or buying one to travel in.

Another great way to help reduce the cost of traveling by RV is to stock up on supplies when they are on sale. This is ideal for long distance trips, as you likely need more supplies, including food, drinks, snacks, and toiletries. Even if you are interested in taking a last minute RV trip, you can still save money. You can do this buy shopping at stores that you already know have low prices. Watching what you buy and what you spend is an easy way to save money.

Before you leave for your trip, make sure that you fill up your gas tank. What is nice about doing so locally is that you likely already have a good idea as to which gas stations have the cheapest prices. Of course, you will never want to run too long on gas when on the road, but if you can stop in well populated areas, you may be able to save money. Well populated areas often give you access to multiple gas stations all in a short distance. This makes it easier to find the cheapest gas prices. If possible, avoid isolated gas stations, as they often have the highest gas prices.

If you will be staying at a public campground or an RV park, take the time to compare prices. This can be done as soon as you have a destination in mind. Many areas in the United States have multiple RV parks or public campgrounds with motor home accommodations. Remember that not all charge the same rates. That is why you should compare prices. You can easily find information on campgrounds and parks online. If rates are not posted online, a quick phone call can get you the answers that you need. Comparing rental rates for motor home accommodations can save you a considerable amount of money, especially on long distance trips.

In keeping with overnight accommodations, if you are traveling to visit friends or family, see if you can park and stay on their land, even if you must do so in their driveway. This can save you a considerable amount of money. It also gives you the opportunity to spend as much time as possible with those that you are visiting.

As outlined above, there are a number of steps that you can take to limit or reduce the cost of traveling by RV. Additional ways that you can save money include preparing your meals on your motor home, as opposed to eating at restaurants, as well as by visiting popular attractions with no or low admission fees, such as parks. Another great way to save money when traveling by RV simply involves using your best judgment.

Learning spanish begin by listening - part 6

Most folks, when they set out to study a new language, begin by enrolling in Spanish I at their local Junior College. This is not the way to begin. In fact, the formal learning about the language in a course at the JuCo is about 5 years away from where you are at if you've had no experience at acquiring the target language.

You begin by listening. You need this exposure to grow accustomed to the sounds of the language. You need this period of silence in which you listen, not produce, so you can bombard your brain with lots and lots of visual and auditory impressions in the new language you are seeking to understand and speak. You've got to learn "the music" of the language. You've got to experience comprehensible input.

It is relatively easy in today's technology to immerse yourself in languages through television. Those seeking to acquire spoken fluency in Spanish have it made in the shade while living in the States. You not only can find multiple radio and cable TV stations that are 100% Spanish, you will most likely find an American-Hispanic community living in a neighborhood near you. You can listen to Spanish almost anywhere in America now. And, if your goal is to develop spoken fluency, you will need to listen and listen and listen.

There are some pretty terrific home study courses that have risen to the challenge of providing "comprehensible input" from a very beginner's level to a high intermediate level. Some even will guide you through to advanced levels. While using these courses, you've got to continue listening to lots of Spanish even when it sounds like gibberish to you. Together with the home study courses, your ear will slowly break down what sounds like one long word into separate components and allow you to understand even the fast talkers. Children, by the way, are the best teachers. They are slow speakers and seem, more often than not, to speak with crystal clarity.

When you reach the point of actually producing speech in the language, and are using a home study course, make sure the environment is as relaxing and free of anxiety as possible. Anxiety is one of the most profound reasons adults do so poorly in classes. In a classroom language learning circumstance, students are constantly put on the spot to perform. You will be asked to produce speech in the class in front of other adult (and sometimes college-age) learners. You may not be ready at that point to produce anything in the language. You may personally need more time to listen. However, in a class, you are put on the spot to produce in the language. The fear of screwing up and looking stupid will be a huge hindrance.

It takes time. It takes time to reach that point at which you are ready to begin showing off your new linguistic skills in a pressured situation. I interviewed multiple people who have an impressive proficiency in Spanish as their second language. All of them said it took 6-10 years to reach the point they were currently at in their Spanish proficiency. And when I say that, I mean not only speaking but also reading and writing. Language acquisition and language learning take time. It isn't going to come after a year of studying Spanish in a Spanish-speaking country. If it took a Mexican child 6-7 years of non-stop bombardment in Spanish to reach his or her first grade level of spoken fluency, then just how long can it take an adult whose first language is not Spanish? It is not an overnight thing. You've got to curb the expectation that after you've shelled out a few hundred dollars (or more) for classes, you are going to have bought yourself fluency.

It isn't going to happen.

Listen actively. Listen passively.

You've got to begin by listening!

Raising-children-04

There are many different challenges in life, but none of them will really prepare you for the most difficult challenge you ever face – that of raising children. You think it will be so easy. Everyone sees the faults that their parents had, and mistakes that they made when they were raising kids. Everyone thinks they can do better. When you actually get down to it, however, raising healthy kids is no picnic. It won't take you long to realize just how much is involved. I absolutely guarantee that you'll have more respect for your parents and the job they did by the time you're done raising a child.

First of all, raising children requires that both partners develop a shared philosophy. You don't have to get along flawlessly, but you do have to put a good face on it. You can't contradict each other in front of the kids, and you can't undermine each others' rules. When you raise children, you have to agree to always make it seem like both parents are united. Otherwise, the children will get pulled into whatever games you are playing with each other. They will try to play one parent off the other, instead of realizing the importance of respect for your rules.

Another important things that the parents have to do when raising children is to plan ahead. Having a child means a commitment of at least 18 years. You have to plan out schooling, figure out what activities to involve your kid in, plan for emergencies and things going wrong, and save up money to help them through college. You also have to plan out daily things like how to ensure that your kids eat healthy food, stay away from the wrong people, or get good grades. It can cost a huge amount of money, and it will take a lot of time. Nonetheless, the rewards are worth it.

Although it is difficult to realize the stress of raising children before you actually do it, it is nearly impossible to understand the rewards. There is nothing quite like seeing your child grow up, happy, healthy, and ready to start a bright career or future with someone they love. It really gives your life continuity, making it all seem worth the work you put into it. Once you have a kid of your own, you get a new sense of the purpose of your life. There is nothing else quite as rewarding as that.

The routes of the legacy of al-andalus

For almost eight centuries, the Iberian Peninsula lived one of its most privileged moments, not only with regard to Spain, but also to Europe as a whole: the age of Moslem Spain, which the Arabs called Bilad al-Andalus.

The mixture of races, religions and cultures gave rise to a brilliant civilization, where both the Arts and Science flourished. Silks, objects of art produced in ivory, bronze and marble, ceramic tiling, the creation of a subtle architectural style and luminous sensual poetry all made al-Andalus the cultural focal point of Europe; a bridge between East and West; the cradle of a splendid and refined civilization.

The Foundation The legacy of al-Andalus aims to recover disseminate and preserve the historical, artistic and architectural heritage of al-Andalus. But also, its wish is to promote the most outstanding values of that civilization: the people's feeling for life, how they lived together in tolerance and harmony, their music, gastronomy, everyday life. The mark left by al-Andalus is reflected in the concept of art, in the character and in the attitude toward life of the present-day inhabitants, heirs to this legacy.

Today we can all delve into this living inheritance, thanks to projects such as the Routes of the legacy of al-Andalus, which will take us through beautiful spots, providing us with an overall vision of the culture, as well as with the chance to truly experience it.

Route of the Caliphate

This Route runs through lands of Cordoba, Jaen and Granada, along the N-432 and N-331 main road and covering approximately 180 km. It links two large geological depressions; that of the river Gaudalquivir and that of Granada, traversing passes in the Sub-Betic mountain ranges opened by basins and river valleys. Both depressions are closed in by the Sierra Morena and Sierra Nevada massifs. This journey follows one of Andalusia's main communications routes.

This Route is a true adventure for the spirit: from Cordoba to Granada, also crossing ancient borderlands of Jaen. Two turning points in history; two unrepeatable moments; two golden ages. It showes the two extremes of the region, revealing the magnificent cultural, religious, political and social heritage left by the Moslems on the Iberian peninsula. Cordoba, the acme, the binding brilliance that made all the other western cities pale by comparison. Granada, the refined terminal mannerism of a civilisation under threat. And, between the two, a succession of walled towns and castles perched atop strategic vantage-points; places that, at first, became the scene of, or were witness to, the occassionally agitated military exchanges and then formed the camps and bases from which to besiege Granada.

This journey is not just a lesson in history. It is also an aesthetic delight, a joy for the senses. Not only for the eyes: refined palates will discover products and tastes with echoes of the past. Those same echoes also seem to be palpable in any of the celebrations and traditions fo the towns and villages along the Route. An itinerary, in short, which will undoubtedly make us that little bit wiser, thanks to all that we will experience along either of its two branches: northern and southern. History, celebrations and crafts, gastronomy.. all taking place in a landscape with a vegetation, agriculture and climate that are unique to these provinces of the Region of Andalucia.

The embarrassment of self development

For a long time I yearned to improve myself; my true inner self, but something was holding me back. I made a lot of excuses back then; I didn’t have time; I was too tired; I wasn’t sure what direction my search should take. However, the truth was I felt embarrassed about opening myself up, especially to those close to me. All that changed when I went for a stroll along a Danish beach.

I went to Denmark for a short camping holiday. I stayed on a small island in the North Sea. It was beautiful, very peaceful; just what I was looking for. On about the third or fourth morning I went for a stroll along the beach. The beach stretched the entire length of the island, about 20km and it was about 2km wide!

After about an hour or so, I came across a young woman who was doing some type of oriental martial art. She was all by herself and seemed totally absorbed in what she was doing. Maybe this is not so strange, but what really seemed incongruous (and darn right silly to me) was that she was wielding a Samurai sword. I really did find myself thinking how silly she looked and actually became a little annoyed. My first thought was: “What a poser”. Did she really love herself so much she thought other people would want to see her performance with a sword? I found myself wishing she would lose her footing and fall down, and then I could say: “that’s what happens when you think so highly of yourself”. But she didn’t fall over; she kept moving, slowly and gracefully.

I continued walking along the beach. I tried to enjoy the remainder of my stroll but I kept thinking about the young woman and her sword! “Why are some people such exhibitionists?” I kept muttering to myself. I was no longer casually strolling along the beach, looking out to sea; I was marching, hunched over, looking at the sand beneath my shoes. I had become self-absorbed; lost in my not-too-pleasant thoughts. I was brought back to this world when I almost walked into an elderly couple. I apologised profusely. They smiled back and said not to worry; they hadn’t been looking where they were going either. They were a sweet old couple, with weather beaten but healthy looking faces with open smiles. It was clear that they were very much in love with one another; they each had a hand resting on the other’s waist. I don’t see too many elderly couples who still walk together with their arms about each and so they appeared a little odd. But what was really strange was that neither of them was wearing any clothes!

I was embarrassed, naturally. But the elderly couple weren’t. They were in no hurry to move on and they began to talk to me. They told me they were Danish and came often to the island. They asked where I was from and had I been before. They went on to tell me that they had been together 42 years and had 2 children. They also told me many things about themselves and asked many questions about myself. And soon, I forgot about their nakedness and felt at ease, and enjoyed our little conversation.

After a time, the old man said that they must be getting on their way and so we said our goodbyes and continued our separate walks; not once did they make any attempt to explain why they were naked. As I thought about the old couple I couldn’t help but smile. They were so gentle and at ease with the world. I knew that they were what I wanted to be; free. Totally free from what others may think of them, totally free of any inhibitions to live the life they wanted. My mind then turned toward the young woman I had seen earlier. I knew, of course, that she was not an exhibitionist seeking attention. She was also free. She was doing what she wanted because it made her content. In truth, the annoyance I felt when I first saw her was not for her but for me. Annoyed because I was embarrassed, about what others might think, to do what I really wanted in life.

I came to a stop and stared out to the grey North Sea. I knew that I must break free, not from the world or people around me, but from me; myself. Without the thought crossing my mind I began to undress. I can honestly say I felt no shyness that day when I removed my last garment. I felt no different than when I undress to take a shower. I left my clothes behind and walked into the sea. I didn’t stay long, less than a minute, the water was freezing. But the dip had felt like a baptism. I walked back out and picked up my clothes. I did not dress but made my way back down the beach from where I had come from.

A while later I passed the young woman. She was sitting crossed legged with the sword across her lap, looking out to sea. When I stepped across her line of vision she looked at me and smiled.

I smiled back.

Flowers and fashion what s vogue

:
Long a symbol of love and beauty, flowers have never gone out of style. Yet, some flower colors, varieties and designs are especially popular among more tasteful gift-givers and decorators. So, while the best advice may be to follow your own taste and sensibility, here's what experts predict will be cutting edge this year for fashion conscious flower lovers everywhere.

Seasonal Statements

Summer looks bright, with flashy colors, especially greens, oranges and yellows, dominating the scene. Gerber daisies, sunflowers, lilies and a spectacular array of colored roses are the mainstay. Designs are casual, contemporary, dramatic, or even outrageous. Blazing tropicals are growing in popularity, too.

Fall color palettes will be more refined, with a variety of rich textures gaining in importance. Look for dried grasses and berries accenting mini callas, Leonidas roses, and Asiatic lilies. Color selections are graced by rust, bronze, amber or copper hues. Centerpieces will be natural yet elegant with deeper color accents.

Traditional red will dominate the Christmas season again this year, but watch for a greater variety of fresh evergreens, berries, roes and accents. Other popular color schemes include darker reds and crimson shades, as well as non-traditional palettes such as purple and turquoise. Textures will continue to play an important role, with flower arrangements featuring everything from pinecones and cedar to intricate handmade ornaments. Expect to see more glass bowls, cubes and vases of every size, especially in colors. With an emphasis on home and hearth, decorator cachepots and family heirloom containers will also play a part.

Spring will burst forth with a flurry of color and all the variety of an English garden. Tulips, iris, hyacinth, freesia, lisianthus, ranunculus and asters are just some of the season's best. Fashionable designs may include simple clusters with just one type of bloom, compact nosegays with an abundance of varied blossoms and tall vased bouquets with stylish blooming branches. Traditional pastels will be back, with a decidedly feminine flair, but don't be surprised by occasional accents in bright fashion colors.

Wedding Flowers

Simple. Elegant. Unique. Those three words are the key to planning a stylish wedding this year. While traditional tones and flowers are still popular, trends are moving toward bouquets with only one type of flower for a clean, contemporary look. Roses are particularly popular, with orchids, Calla lilies, cymbidiums and hydrangea making frequent appearances.

Colors are leaning toward monochromatic, for strong identity and style. Red and white are popular all year. Bright colors, like greens and oranges, will flow in the summer months. The Bohemian look, consisting of metals, browns, oranges and greens will emerge in the Fall. Combinations like "Khaki and Cream" are a good example of this Autumn vogue. Whites, creams, peaches and soft pinks remain, but bolder colors will come shining through. So, don't be afraid to try something different, just remember to keep it simple, elegant and unique.

Flower Design Trends

From apple and lime to sage and celery, greens are definitely hot. Watch for cymbidiums, hydrangea, Kermit button poms, and roses in a variety of gorgeous green shades all year. In warmer months, look for hot pinks, bright oranges, and sunny yellows in the mix. In the cooler months, expect richer tones and deeper hues. The emphasis on design is texture and detail, with the best floral artists not only featuring unusual flower varieties but also other materials in their designs, such as grasses, berries, branches, and even metals. Design styles may vary from the streamlined elegance of just a few unusual blooms to the lush opulence of many different flowers combined, but regardless of style, it will be the small details and unusual accents that make all the difference this year.

Timeless Beauty

Flowers are timeless. Their popularity dates back ages. Yet, like anything else, flowers are subject to the ebb and flow of fashion trends. For the hottest colors, textures and design styles, keep an eye on your favorite decorating magazines, and clip a few of your favorite pictures. Then, consult your local florist. No matter what you have in mind, a professional florist can bring it to life. With an eye on design and a great florist partner, you'll find it's easy to make your floral gift-giving and home decorating more beautiful than ever and fashionably fresh all year.

Cholesterol what is it and are you at risk

Cholesterol is a fatty lipid, steroid and an alcohol found in the body tissues and blood plasma of vertebrates. It is the essential part of the outer membranes of human body cells, and it circulates in the blood.

Cholesterol in the human body comes from two major sources. About three-quarters of the body’s total cholesterol is produced within the body, while only one-quarter comes from cholesterol in food.

Higher concentrations of cholesterol are present in body tissues which have more densely packed membranes – i. e. the liver, spinal cord, brain, atheroma, adrenal glands and reproductive organs.

The liver is the most important site of cholesterol biosynthesis. It is secreted from the liver in the form of an acidic secretion known as ‘bile’.

Diets rich in animal fats, meat, poultry, fish, oils, egg yolks and dairy products are a rich source of dietary cholesterol. Organ meats, such as liver and kidney, are extremely rich in cholesterol content, but foods of plant origin contain no cholesterol.

High cholesterol levels in the bloodstream can influence the pathogenesis of certain conditions. Recent studies have revealed that the abundance of protein complexes called lipoproteins, are responsible for the cholesterol build-up in the blood vessels.

Cholesterol gets attached to these lipoproteins. The high-density lipoprotein (HDL) carries cholesterol out of the bloodstream for excretion, while the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) carries it back into the system for use by various body cells.

LDL cholesterol is called bad cholesterol, because elevated levels of it are associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease. LDL deposits cholesterol on the artery walls which leads to the formation of a hard, thick substance called cholesterol plaque. Over time, cholesterol plaque causes thickening of the artery walls and narrowing of the arteries, a process called atherosclerosis.

The levels of both HDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol may also determine risk for heart disease; however current medical opinion is that the ratio of HDL cholesterol to LDL cholesterol is much more important than the level of cholesterol.

Methods to control your cholesterol levels:

Lower your consumption of foods containing saturated fats - fried fast foods, butter, cream, cheese, and fat on meat - to help reduce cholesterol. Add more plant foods to your diet – vegetable oils, nuts, legumes, breads, cereal grains, fruits and vegetables. A low cholesterol diet, combined with regular exercise is the best way to lower cholesterol levels.

Medications can also help lower cholesterol levels. HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, ‘Statins’, such as lovastatin (Mevacor) and atorvastatin (Lipitor) are the most effective and widely used medications to lower LDL cholesterol. Other medications include nicotinic acid (niacin), fibrates such as gemfibrozil (Lopid), resins such as cholestyramine (Questran), and ezetimibe, Zetia. These medications should be taken after consulting the experts.

The benefits of quilting designs

If you ever wondered where on earth all those graceful quilting designs come from on a quilt, several were designed by manual effort. Many others, however come from using a pattern. Before the days of patterns all the quilting designs originated in someone's mind as they saw in their mind's eye what they wished the end product to look like. With several designs crossing over several different squares it is easy to realize that it demands real talent to design your own quilt.

Patchwork quilts are possibly the most effortless designs to do because they consist of nothing except than a patchwork of distinct color materials, cut up into squares and sewn together in random order. Those patches that are made in a quilting design must be sewn back together in sequence for the material's patterns to match. Whether left to right or top to bottom, making a patterned match on each square with a square next to it requires planning and a lot of patience.

Your quilt size and the size of the squares, which will form the quilt will determine how complex the design of the quilt will be. While many decide on keeping their designs simple, others desire more intricate and complex designs. Using material that already has a premade design on it can make things a lot easier, but you still need to make each piece of similar size to make certain they fit together properly to form the designed size.

If you want to make your quilting designs reversible, you must realize that you will be spending an inordinate amount of time making it. Both sides must be finished, in regards to knots, and dependent upon your concept of reversible, may well require both sides made in mirror image before you sew all the layers together.

A sewing machine with a computerized guide can make quilting designs much easier to make. Many enable you to enter your design and let the machine do the work. The machine will then follow the pattern on the material you've put in the machine. For entire quilts where duplicated quilting designs are wanted this can make them easily and quickly.

Without an electronic sewing machine, there are patterns on the market with which to mark your cloth and then do the sewing by either traditional machine or by hand. Whichever way you choose, making more than enough squares for a moderately sized quilt is going to take some time and work on your part.

Anini Beach in the north of Kauai is also a great snorkel location. Take a right on Kalihawai Road just after the Big Bridge. Stay on Kalihawai Road for just a few seconds and then take a left on Anini Road and follow the road to the end. You can then head out to the beach with your snorkel gear. The beach is wide and large and the waves break far out, so you will simply need to head out a ways before you start snorkeling.

Lydgate State Park

In the East is Lydgate State Park and it lies just past the Wilua River sign if you are traveling from the north. However, if you are traveling from the airport then take Hwy. 56 and keep going until you pass the Wailua Golf Course. Then, simply turn right on Leho Road and then you will reach Lydgate State Park. If you are new to snorkeling then this is a great location to start out with. The Beach House is also an amazing snorkel location. Here you want to head towards Spouting Horn off of Poipu Road. As you are traveling look for the Beach House Restaurant. Once you reach it you simply need to park and then head to the nice bay beside the restaurant. At the Beach House you can enjoy snorkeling and seeing the many different fish that live in the bay.

Lumahai Beach State Park

Lumahai Beach State Park is in the north of the island and is about 5 miles past Princeville. When you are driving keep your eye out for a beach trail and cars parked alongside the road. Here you will encounter Lumahai Beach State Park. Simply follow the path down to the beach and get ready to snorkel. However, this is a snorkel area for more advanced snorkelers and if you are a novice then you should avoid this area for some time because it can be dangerous.

The Entire Coast

While there are a lot of specific locations where snorkeling is known to be especially great, there are also a lot of unknown snorkel areas that are still being discovered, or hidden areas that only a few people know about. So, if you are interested in snorkeling in a particular area ask about the surf, the safety, water clarity, and then give it a shot! Ceiling fan lights and blades

Ceiling fan lights

The lighting scheme provides the finishing touch to the decoration of your rooms. Accordingly the modern electrical appliances are designed to enhance the beauty of your rooms. In quest for design innovations, ceiling fan lights emerged as a great idea from both functional and aesthetic points of view. As such most of the leading brands nowadays provide for the arrangements of ornamental "fitters" tucked beneath the blades to support lamps and their decorative shades.

With a ceiling fan light kit, you can make the most gorgeous decoration statement. An elaborate ceiling fan light kit is ideal for a big hall type room with a high ceiling. A small and simple ceiling fan light on the other hand can lend a stylish look to an otherwise plain interior. So it is always recommended to select the ceiling fan light according to your room size, height of the ceiling, colors of the walls and the type of illumination desired.

The ceiling fan lights are available in the wide assortments of neon, glass globes or simple bulbs. Shades are mostly available in glass and crystal materials. If you plan to install a ceiling fan light in the outdoors, go for the weather proof UL rated light kit only, both for the purpose of safety and durability.

Most of the contemporary fans are adaptable to the attachment of ceiling fan light kit having a link to the fan’s switch housing and requires only a simple electrical connection.

In order to fix a ceiling fan light, first access the wiring by loosening the screws of the fan's switch housing bracket on the bottom. Among the bundle of wires you have to look for two wires meant for ceiling fan light. One will be white (neutral), the other, black, and red or blue (hot). Then attach the adapter ring. In order to make the wiring connections with the two labeled wires, join the two neutral wires with a wire connector and the fixture's hot wire to the labeled wire bracket. Now fix the light kit to the fan with the screws and connect to power.

Ceiling Fan Blades

A ceiling fan consists of three basic parts, namely the motor; blades and the mounting device. The standard ceiling fans comprises of three to five blades. The numbers and sizes of the blades determine the prices of the fan. The more the number of the blades, the costlier is the fan. Price also depends on the length of the ceiling fan blades which is measured by the full blade sweep they produce. There is no universally fixed size for the ceiling fan blades; length varies with the brands. In the high quality ceiling fans, the spin lengths vary between 30, 42, 44, 46, 50, 52 and 60 inches diameter.

The quality of the fans is rated by their performance in moving the air effectively and quietly. This is conditioned by such factors as the pitch, length, and number of ceiling fan blades, and their revolutions per minute (rpms). The angular edges of the ceiling fan blades are termed as the pitches which are particularly important for the effective replacement of the air. This shape enables the blade to apply pressure to the air in front of it and consequently the air is forced downwards.

Higher pitches allow more replacement of air. High quality ceiling fan blades have a pitch of 12-14 degrees. A blade pitch as low as 8 or 10 degrees leads to poorer performance. While the short ceiling fan blades with minimum pitches can swirl at a high speed, they do not make for much air circulation and they are noisier than the types of fans with longer blades and higher pitches though they rotate more slowly.

These days ceiling fan blades are available in a range of color and designs. Different materials like solid wood, cross-laminated veneer and less-expensive veneered constant-density boards are used to render the ceiling fan blades a smart and contemporary looks. The trendy get ups include a metal finish, or a wooden looks. The use of woven bamboo and fabrics has also become popular. Contrast or reversible ceiling fan blades are yet another innovative addition to the whole gamut of ceiling fan blade designing. With two different finishes on both sides of the blade, they add to the glamour quotient of your interior.

Then there are those stylist outdoor ceiling fan blades made up of washable sail cloth stretched over a frame. Some of the leading brands also offer a replacement ceiling fan blade which allows you to bring a touch of change and alteration to your interiors all round the year.

How can you get cheap auto insurance in new york

Auto insurance companies consider several factors when setting the rates of auto insurance policies. One important factor is the safety of the area in which the automobile is primarily driven and parked. Many parts of New York are considered high crime areas, and auto insurance companies are naturally going to hike auto insurance rates up for drivers who live, and drive, in high crime areas.

Living and driving in New York doesn’t mean you have to pay outrageously high auto insurance rates. There is a way to get cheap auto insurance in New York. First, think of the problem, which is the fact that auto insurance companies view automobiles in New York as being at high risk for theft, burglary, vandalism, and other damaging factors. So, aside from moving to a safer place, how can you combat these risks and get cheaper auto insurance in New York? By making your automobile safer, of course!

Install safety devices that weren’t included when you purchased your automobile. Safety devices worth considering are automobile alarm systems that sound when someone tries to break into your automobile; equipment that prevents your steering wheel from being turned if a thief should get your automobile started; and sturdier windows that will prevent anyone from breaking into your automobile.

Also consider where your automobile is stored when you aren’t driving it. If your automobile is parked on the side of the street while you sleep at night, auto insurance companies are likely to give you higher insurance rates. If you have a garage or rent parking space in a secure and private parking lot, auto insurance companies are likely to offer you cheaper auto insurance.

If you’re shopping for auto insurance in New York, or already have an auto insurance policy, talk with your insurance agent about making these safety improvements to your automobile and how they will help you get cheap auto insurance in New York.

Choose your cover finding effective sun protection

With all of us feverishly trying to keep up with the latest fads Hollywood exports, finally there is a fashion tip that will truly enhance our lives.

Recently, Tom Cruise’s former sidekick Nicole Kidman was quoted by the Associated Press as saying: “I wish that I hadn’t been born with red hair and fair skin” as she is concerned about the amount sun exposure and its direct link to an increased risk for skin cancer. She should know, too. After all, she hails from Australia where skin cancer is an exploding epidemic.

Subsequently, Australia is the leading the world in heightening the quality of skin cancer prevention education and proactive sun safety behavior. Truth be told, skin cancer is the world’s most common cancer. Americans are no exception to the rule either! Every hour someone in the United States dies from skin cancer, according to the American Academy of Dermatology (www. AAD. org). Perhaps, Kidman’s example will encourage the propagation of a new fashion wave - sun protective clothing.

Whereas, sun protective clothing (also known as ultraviolet radiation protective clothing; or “UVR”) is widely used in Australia, Europe, and South Africa, it is still relatively unknown here in the U. S. Sun protective clothing, however, is a highly effective option for individuals to protect themselves from the harmful affects of UV-rays all day, every day.

If you consider that the average white 100% cotton t-shirt is equivalent to only a SPF 6 (which provides about 14% worth of sun protection), clearly there is a need for light-weight, functional, stylish, economical, clothing that also provides exceptional protection from over-exposure to the sun.

On the other hand, sun protective clothing blocks out more than 97.5% of UV rays (which is an equivalent to a SPF 30 sunscreen). This is considered by the Skin Cancer Foundation to be “the best of the best” as it were when it comes to effective sun protection. If you consider that a SPF 20 sunscreen is allowing only five out of every 100 UV protons to reach your skin; it is 95% protective, than sun protective clothing is quite simply the most revolutionary new product available on the market today for those looking for a viable, yet extremely effective, way to protect themselves and their loved ones from sun damage.

Dermatologist-oncologist, Sancy A. Leachman of the Tom C. Mathews Jr. Familial Melanoma Research Clinic at The Huntsman Cancer Institute (www. HuntsmanCancer. org) recommends that everyone use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor of 15 for daily, year-round use; SPF 30 is recommended if we are outdoors between 10:00 a. m. and 4:00 p. m. when UV rays are most intense.

SPF 30 sunscreen is also highly recommended for those of us who possess multiple risk factors for skin cancer such as blonde or red hair, blue or green eyes, fair or sensitive skin, many atypical moles, and even family history of skin cancer – like Nicole Kidman. Wearing sun protective clothing, coupled with proper year-round use of sunscreens, is the quite simply the best protection available, Sancy says. And her colleagues in the field of dermatological medicine agree.

“Appropriate sun apparel should offer effective protection against both short term and long term photo damage [such as wrinkling, skin cancer, and even cataracts],” says Dr. J. M. Mentor, who also teaches dermatology at the Morehouse School of Medicine (www. MSM. edu). In other words, effective sun safety apparel ought to protect against both UV-B and UV-A rays, and sun protective products such as those specially manufactured by Stingray in Australia, do exactly that.

Stingray is the original sun protection clothing company to specialize in UV protection swimwear and daily attire for children and adults. “As a result of listening to the needs of our many customers, we are able to deliver products that take the ‘sting out of the sun’s rays,’” says Wendy Lister, Managing Director of Stingray. “[People] are now getting the best possible UV protection.” Those living at high altitudes or near the equator, have the highest risk in for skin cancer, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Glen and Liisa Tomson, both natives of South Africa, know first-hand the devastating toll sun damage can take on our health. As such, they have recently partnered up with The Cancer Crusaders Organization (www. CancerCrusaders. org) in a five-year international skin cancer prevention education campaign called “Only Skin Deep?” This program aims to actively engage parents and young adults in the fight against the world’s most common, yet preventable, cancer.

“We see a great and pressing need for increased awareness and education here in the U. S.,” says Glen Tomson. “Too many times my wife and I will be at the pool, and see all these children running around sun burnt. Often, we’ll offer shade [clothing] and sunscreen to the parents so they can better protect their children.” Glen and Liisa, in addition to being entrepreneurs and experts, are parents and realize the importance of instilling the practice of sunscreen usage and the wearing of sun protective clothing at a young age so as to develop a lifelong habit of sun safety behavior.

In fact, the American Academy of Dermatology reports that sustaining just one severe “blistering” sunburn before age 18 increases one’s likeliness of a future skin cancer diagnosis by an estimated 60%. In other words, 80% of one’s lifetime skin damage occurs in the first 18 years of life. This is of particular concern the mountain states where high elevation exposes us to more intense UV irradiation.

Dr. Leachman illustrates it best by saying, “Someone standing on the summit of Mt. Timpanogos [Utah] will burn 66-to-77 times faster than someone standing on a beach in Los Angeles [California].” Lechman adds, “Skin cancer incidence is increasing at an alarming rate here in the United States, so it is important that we all take proper precautions to protect ourselves.”

The AAD solidifies Leachman’s remarks, reporting 1.3-million Americans will be diagnosed with some form of skin cancer this year. The risk is real,” Leachman says. “There is a real need for people to take necessary precautions and to teach patients how to advocate for themselves [in reducing their risk for skin cancer].”

Making the best use of your home equity line of credit

Your home is where your heart is and it has great sentimental value for you. Your home is also your most valuable asset in your lifetime. Your home builds up enormous equity over the years. Whenever you are in dire need of cash, you can take advantage of this value of equity to apply for a home equity loan or a home equity credit to get through challenging times.

Of course other credit options open to you include consumer loans, or borrowing money against your credit card. But the greatest disadvantage of all these forms of debt as compared to home equity credit line is that they charge you exorbitant interest rates. On the other hand, a home equity line of credit provides a low cost way of getting extra credit. This type of loan is particularly cost effective as it comes with tax-deductible features, which you would not get with the other types of consumer loans.

There are a number of advantages associated with the home equity line of credit. Here are a few tips to help you best utilize this type of loan:

* Are you badly in debt? The home equity credit line can offer you the best solution in managing your debt and credit situation. You can use the money from this loan to consolidate all your other debts and to repay all these high interest loans. With this type of loan you only have to make a single low interest payment every month.

* Repairing, extension or remodeling of your home is considered to be the best way of utilizing your line of credit. These additional renovations such as making improvements to the kitchen or adding additional amenities to the bathroom not only provides you with short term benefits and conveniences, but also adds long term value to your home. Thus, home equity credit enables you to make long-term investments.

* The cost of higher education is becoming increasingly expensive. In the absence of an education fund it has become nearly impossible to cover this huge expense for your children. For such expenses, the equity value of your home is a valuable aid in getting further funds. You can draw a certain amount on your credit line for a specified period to pay the tuition and other fees to the school or education institution.

* Home equity credit is most useful during times of emergencies, such as medical emergencies in the family. This is the time when you truly appreciate having a home equity line of credit.

Coaching an attitude

Do you find yourself in a difficult work environment with no immediate view of a change in occupation? Do you labor on wondering if your work matters or if the future will ever be bright enough to wear shades?

If so, you can endure the difficulties and in the end you may be better equipped to manage future assignments in either your present job or any new employment you may pursue.

How can such a miracle take place?

Attitude. Your attitude about even the hardest of assignments can help you in the future. The truth is the only person you can control in this life is yourself. You can decide how you will respond. If you decide you are angry with your boss and that the demands placed on you are unreasonable your actions will demonstrate the perspective you have adopted. You will not be a pleasant employee, coworker, parent or spouse.

There is a story of a business owner that hired a temporary employee. The first day the business owner told the man that he needed a pile of bricks moved from one location on the property to another and then the bricks were to be carefully restacked. The man complied with the request easily enough and at the end of the day a beautiful stack of bricks were the representation of his attention to detail.

The second day the business owner pointed to the pile of bricks that were moved the day before and told the man that he wanted the bricks moved back to their original location and restacked. Without complaint the man happily complied with the same careful attention.

This happened for three more days and each day the temporary worker complied with what seemed to be an insane request and the boss was well pleased.

The story concludes with the temporary worker being selected as a supervisor in the company because he knew that value of following directions without complaint – even when the requests made no sense.

As an employee you may not have the ability to alter the direction your boss has determined for you. You might think it unfair, but your most important job is determining how you respond to the demands placed on you. A positive attitude could change how your boss perceives you and your abilities.

Another story is told of an elderly woman moved from her long-term home to a nursing care center. Even before she saw the room she exclaimed, “I love the room.”

A nurse said, “You haven’t even seen the room yet. How can you say you love it?”

“Because I’ve already made up my mind that I will, and that’s enough,” the older woman replied with a smile.

Our attitude can radically change our perspective and the way others perceive us. Stress levels decrease when we refuse to hold onto the stress that causes physical problems like ulcers and headaches.

You can actually be empowered by knowing that when it comes to how you respond YOU are the one in charge.

Updating bathroom furniture

It’s surprising the difference new bathroom furniture can make from the simple addition of a new bathroom vanity or bathroom basin. Sprucing up your bathroom and giving it some pizzazz can cost little money without breaking the bank. By carefully accessing your design needs at the onset of your remodeling project this will save both time and money. By capitalizing on the existing architecture of the bathroom can be beneficial for redecorating on a budget. Before tearing down walls and ripping up floor tiles consider what can be preserved in your bathroom in order to free up money for other necessary purchases.

Applying wall finishes can give tattered walls a unique look by using different techniques such as texturizing with paint and plaster or wall stenciling to hide any imperfections. Cracked ceramic floor tiles can easily be replaced. Whether it is single tile or a few ones, take a trip to a flooring center and have then match the tile with the existing one. If by chance the tile is no longer available, an inexpensive and imaginative solution is to create a new pattern within the existing tiles. Remove a few additional tiles to create a two-toned checkerboard look floor that follows your color scheme and bathroom motif .

Bathroom vanities are often the centerpiece of a bathroom remodeling or decorating project. By changing the bathroom vanity you can add elegance by creating a traditional or contemporary look as well as providing much needed storage space especially for smaller bathrooms. The bathroom vanity should always be the first piece of bathroom furniture purchased. Choosing the right vanity will help you select the correct basin if not sold as a complete unit and will also set the tone for the style of bathroom mixer tap as well as other bathroom accessories such as wall mirrors and other bathroom fixtures.

One of the least expensive and easiest ways to upgrade the look of your bathroom is to replace the basin. With unlimited designs and styles available from the standard white porcelain to freestanding pedestal basins can give your bathroom just the right boost. Aside from the addition of a new bathroom vanity and basin to alter the appearance of the room, other finishing touches can be added such as independent storage units to coordinate with the existing bathroom furniture that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but alleviates clutter.

Both practical and affordable wall-mounted mirrors can beautify the bathroom while creating the illusion of space by adding depth and dimension to the bathroom. Today there is a vast assortment of illuminated and plain bathroom mirrors framed to frameless and in a number of finishes the perfect touch for both contemporary and traditional bathrooms. Bathroom mirrors are the most flexible of bathroom furniture pieces, since they are easily suited to adapt with other bathroom dйcor without sacrificing style.

A whole body approach to fat loss

Copyright 2006 The Fitness Consulting Group

What’s the Secret to losing bodyfat and keeping it off?

Ask 100 different fitness experts this question, and you’ll probably get 80 or more different answers. That’s one reason why fitness and fat loss gets so darn confusing-everybody seems to have “the answer.”

You’ve got 101 different theories about how to induce fat loss including super-slow training, heart rate training, circuit training, Pilates, yoga principles, high-rep weight training, and aerobics.

When it comes to nutrition, there are even more fad diets than exercise theories. The Atkins Diet, The South Beach Diet, Eat 4 Your Blood Type, Low Fat, Low Carb, Low Calorie, The Zone…even Dr. Phil has a diet book.

Well, I’m going to simplify things for you. Work the whole body each session! No tricky split routines, no bodypart training…just training the body the way it was intended to function, as a whole.

Human movement, stabilization, balance and strength are the results of a whole body approach to strength training. Until recently, the fitness industry had forgotten how to incorporate the entire body in exercise programming.

The human body has over 600 muscles, all intended to work as one complete and complimentary system. Traditional exercise programs have neglected the majority of these muscles by training in a one-dimensional environment. This type of training handicaps the body from performing the way it is designed to function.

Training in a fixed plane environment leads to isolated results, muscle imbalance, and injury. In contrast, the whole body approach to resistance training prepares participants of any fitness level to achieve great improvements in body composition and function better in daily life as well. The three-dimensional environment of training movements, not individual muscles, enables the body to become efficient in both static and dynamic environments. Participants achieve balanced, long lasting, effective results.

This method is fun because it is a whole body approach. The same movement patterns that we used as children (pushing, pulling, twisting, lunging, squatting, stepping and balance in multiple planes) are the core of your approach to fat loss. From beginners to the most advanced exercise fanatic, this approach to fat loss and fitness will provide fun and effective workouts and lasting results.

Full body training is an extremely effective way to loose weight as involves dynamic, whole body movement that increase caloric expenditure. Training movements instead of individual muscles can also help change body composition by increasing muscle mass, increasing growth hormone output, raising metabolism, maximizing caloric output, and ultimately decreasing body fat.

Now, regardless of how great your workout is, food intake is the key factor that will either make you or brake you as far as fat loss goes. The only way that the human body drops body fat is by being in what is called a calorie deficit. This brings us back to LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS. Remember, I’ll say it one more time...this law states that if you eat more calories in a day than you burn you will gain fat, if you burn more calories in a day than you eat you will lose fat, and if you eat the same amount of calories in a day as you burn you will remain constant. This is a law!!!! It is as true as the law of gravity and it is how the body works. Knowing this, it is simple. If you want to lose fat you need to adjust you daily calorie intake so that you are into a calorie deficit. You need to get your calorie count low enough to begin fat loss, but at the same time keeping it high enough to remain healthy. The second step to optimizing you food intake is by spreading your food out evenly throughout the day. Ideally, you want to be on a five meal per day plan. By spreading your calories evenly through five small meals your metabolism works its best for you. When you constantly give your body food with small meals your body does not feel the need to store fat. On the contrary when eating large, infrequent meals your body feels the need to store some food as fat for it is unsure as to when it will be fed again. Get on a scheduled meal plan that your body will respond to. Five meals a day, approximately three hours apart works great. A healthy start point for you protein, carbohydrate, and fat ratio’s is 25% of you food coming from protein, 60% of your food coming from carbohydrate, and 15% of your food intake coming from fats.

Now, I’m going to give you an industry secret. A lot of personal trainers out there are gonna be upset with me for it is too valuable to give away, but I’m going do it any way. If you want to lose fat and you are unsure of how many calories you are supposed to eat and are not in a position to hire professional assistance, barring any medical conditions, a simple formula to follow is this. Take your body weight and add a zero on the end. Use that as your general guideline, split the number evenly among five meals per day and your body should be in a calorie deficit. For example if you weigh 180lbs., add a zero, your now at 1800 calories. Divide that over five meals per day, your eating 360 calories per meal. Keeping each meal balanced approximately 60% carbs, 25% proteins, 15% fat, you are eating in a healthy way to lose weight. It works!! Note, if you have any medical conditions always consult with your physician first. How quickly will you see results? Although results will vary with each individual, full body training coupled with a proper nutrition program will help you achieve greater results than most other programs in less time. The results can come quicker and be longer lasting.

Life memories and forgetting

Divorce - How to rebuild your life memories and forgetting

Memories are something that we will have for a lifetime. These are sometimes good and other times they are hard to hold onto. There are some instances when all we really want to do is forget about the world and move on with our lives. This is true for anyone that is going through a divorce. This can be the most difficult time of your life and you will have to make the necessary arrangements to keep the good memories and forget the old.

It will depend on how long you were married and how many good and bad memories you have. For some people they may be getting divorced after many long years of marriage. For them, they will have had their share of ups and downs and it is important for them to hold onto the good memories so that they can keep a positive attitude towards life.

Memories that are not so great are something that you may want to forget. When you are going through a divorce, it will seem like everything will bring up a familiar memory to you. You will want to make sure that you are going to be able to deal with those times and all the feelings that come along with it. You may have to find a way to cope with them and to get past the things that remind you of the good old days.

Sometimes it is ok to have the fond memories come back. There are many times when you are going to have these feelings of old memories come rushing back. You will have the comfort of these memories as long as you are able to control the way that they make you feel. You want to be able to keep these memories in the back of your mind but you also want to be able to get past the bad feelings that some of these memories can leave for you.

If you are looking to try and forget the memories of your life that you had before your divorce, it may be an uphill battle. There may be no way of getting past this type of issue. You do not want to forget the good times that you have endured especially if those memories included children. You want to be able to look back on this time with happiness and not be disappointed or upset by them.

You should remember that you would have many new memories to make for yourself and your family. You want to take comfort in the fact that you still have a life to live and you want to make the most of the life that you have now. You want to go on and continue to enjoy the good things in life as much as you can. In time, you will find it easier to let go of the past and get started with the new beginning that you are about to go through.

The worst thing that you can do is shut out the memories that you have created with someone that you loved even if now you are no longer in love with that person. You will want to grow with these memories and find ways to accept the fact that the past is gone and that you now have to live for the future and what it holds in store for you. A divorce is not the end of the world and you will want to find ways to move past the hurt and get to the good stuff that lies ahead.

How to stop change stressing you out

One of the biggest triggers for an episode of stress, depression or anxiety is a change to our lives, particularly unwanted change such as a death of a loved one, a job loss or a relationship breakdown. These are unpleasant experiences and for many, a prolonged period of mental trauma followed.

During the past week, two friends of mine have experienced differing major changes to their lives yet both reacted in exactly the same way. There is a very important skill to be learned from both experiences when it comes to change, and I’ll share it with you. Before I do, let’s look at how two totally different changes can trigger the same reaction but with drastically different emotional results.

Jimmy was my best buddy during childhood and our families were good friends. I haven’t seen him for a while and out of the blue, I bumped into him whilst on a night out. Sadly, his news wasn’t good as his father had passed away after battling cancer that very morning. Obviously, he’d known for a while that his father’s days were numbered but despite this, he was still in a state of shock and of course, he was deeply saddened.

I wished that our greeting could’ve been in happier circumstances, but such is the tide of life.

The following day, Paul, my best friend, rang me and told me some very good news. After studying and working hard for the last two years, he had reached his goal: a fully qualified commercial airline pilot. Knowing how focused and dedicated he’s been I was absolutely delighted for him! Of course, he was buzzing with excitement about the future that now awaits him.

OK, both of them supplied the same meaning to their circumstances by saying EXACTLY the same phrase:

“Things will never be the same again.”

Same phrase, but a world apart in meaning.

In the first situation, the loss of a loved one is an unwanted change, a change that cannot be prevented. In the second situation, the qualifications are a wanted, planned change, a change brought about by conscious choice to achieve a desired lifestyle.

However, there is a very important lesson you can learn from both that can help you deal with change, whether it’s a desired change like a change of job or an unwanted change like loss of a loved one.

Look at the phrase again. It describes not just individual experiences but the whole of life on planet earth. Because NOTHING in this life will stay the same. It just isn’t the nature of life. The very nature of life itself is a constant cycle of birth and death.

As a species, humanity has evolved throughout its history and will continue to do so. The way life is today is dramatically different than it was just 20 years ago. Technology, science, education, standards of living – you name it, it changes.

Look at your own life and you’ll see that change has been ever present. People, jobs, relationships, lifestyle – none of it has ever stayed the same. And imagine how boring life would be if everyday was exactly the same!

Reacting to change in a catastrophic or euphoric manner isn’t the way to deal with it. Far better – and far less emotionally arousing – is to accept that change is a constant of life whether we want change or not and that change will always happen. It’s how you adapt and assign meanings to change that counts.

Keep this in mind when change occurs and you won’t become emotionally traumatized. Change is a constant and indeed, things will never be the same again!

Finding the right purse

We fail to realize that bags are an important factor to complete a look. The style, type, size and shape of your bag can either complement your outfit or better yet make it look horrible. Buying a purse is just like buying clothes. You have to ensure that it fits your body type. You have to be certain that it matches with the clothes you have in mind.

Generally, when we buy purses we always have to consider its size first and foremost. Before buying it, it is important to have tried on the bag. If you are buying the bag to match with an outfit for a special occasion, wearing the outfit or bringing it with you would be a big help to make sure in getting the right fit and to make certain that it will definitely go well with your total look.

In choosing a bag, always think of proportion. If you are small or petite, choose purses that are just right for your size. If you use oversized bags, it will just emphasize more your being small. Smaller bags will work best for you.

If you are heavy on the bottom, you need to draw the attention away from it. Shoulder bags or Hobo bags would go well for women having this type of figure.

If you are heavy on top, you want to draw attention away from either your chest or bulging stomach. A messenger bag or handbag would be perfect for people conscious of their tummies. Slightly large bags with long straps should also do the trick.

For those with an hourglass figure almost any bag would suit your body type. Just avoid bags that are either too small or too big. What works best for you would definitely be a shoulder bag that just sits right at the waist for it helps accentuates your figure.

For plus size women avoid bags that are small. This will just emphasize more your heavy stature. Go for styles that are bigger and wider.

If you are tall and lean, well then you are very lucky indeed. This body type can very well have any purse because whatever be its size or style it will definitely look good on her.

If you are interested in looking for bags that suits your body type, visit http://www. ebags. com. They have a wide variety of choices to choose from like shoulder bags and hobos and they offer authentic designer bags as well. They even offer items that are on sale with free shipping.

Evolution of casual games

:

Casual games are the games that are designed for an average gamer or computer user, they feature a very short learning curve, have very basic rules and do not require much strategy, anybody should be able to enjoy casual games within minutes of launch.

Since the first days of Windows operating system top casual games were Solitaire, Minesweeper and Tetris like games which regardless of their simplicity cost worldwide economy millions of dollars in office productivity due to their addicting nature.

Today there are several major casual game developers such as Big Fish Games, Relexive, iWin, RealArcade and few other publishers who deserve most credit for great success of the casual games. Not only do they output several new and revolutionary games daily, keeping all the casual and hardcore gamers playing all the addicting games non stop, they also do a great job as far as promotion of the games is concerned.

Casual game developers are creating very high quality games which they offer trial versions for, with either time limit, level limit or some other feature limitations of the game. Those trial versions are usually enough to have the gamer hooked and either keep playing the limited version or purchase the full version of the casual game.

Another way casual game developers promote the games, is by having those same casual games available in flash or shockwave on online gaming site and then allow gamers to download the own "offline" version of the game.

Regardless of simplicity and the basic nature of casual games, they are really taking off and becoming a larger share of gaming industry daily, who knows maybe thanks to all the new casual games we will finally let the basic Windows Solitaire go.

Laminate flooring the basics

Laminate flooring is a synthetic alternative to wood flooring. Laminate flooring was not sold in the United States until about 1996, but it has been sold in European countries for about 20 years.

Laminate flooring is made up of several layers:

The surface is a hard as nails film, normally made of aluminum oxide. Right underneath the surface film is a photographic image or decor paper (usually of wood), to give the flooring the look of a natural wood floor. The core of laminate flooring is made of various materials, most often high density fiberboard, or wood particle board. The final layer of laminate flooring is the backing, made of various materials. Backings made of laminate material are superior as far as water or moisture damage is concerned.

Laminate flooring may be installed over any kind of sub floor, as it is not directly attached to the sub floor, but is a “floating” floor. Many laminate flooring manufacturers use a “click system” on the tongue and groove joints, so you can just fit the joints together and you are ready to go. Other manufacturers require you to glue the pieces of flooring together, but in either case, you do not need to nail the floor to the sub floor.

If you are laying the laminate flooring directly over a concrete sub floor, you'll need to lay down a damp proof membrane, a. k.a. DPM, before laying the flooring. This is to keep moisture from seeping up through the floor into the laminate flooring.

Laminate flooring has quite a few benefits: affordability, low maintenance, ease of installation, attractive looks, and more. It also has a few drawbacks, though: it's not as durable as real wood, doesn't absorb sound well, doesn't feel as warm to your cold feet on winter mornings, and may warp if it is exposed to moisture.

Las vegas - fremont street

Every city in America has a main street. Many European cities do, too, but as many of them are round it's sometimes hard to tell which it is. But that's not a problem in Las Vegas. Fremont Street is it. Of course, those who walk The Strip will argue. But visit Fremont Street and you'll be convinced. New York has Times Square at Broadway where the neon lights astound visitors. Paris is appropriately nicknamed the City of Lights. But Las Vegas is unique. Nowhere outside Asia can you find such a dazzling array of sights and sounds, with crowds to match.

Housed under a permanent canopy, the casino-lined street has over two million lights and a state-of-the-art sound system. The combined effect is, well, electric. Under the $70 million canopy walk a million visitors a year, if 'walk' is the proper term. On many nights, it's more like being the ball in a pinball game. Not that it's overcrowded, it's just that you spend so much time trying to take in all the sights, you have to bump shoulders fairly frequently.

Ninety feet above your head there are 12.5 million synchronized LED lights producing millions of color combinations, accompanied by animation and video. One second it may be a TV broadcast, the next an indefinable kaleidoscope that pops your pupils. Among the better known signs is Glitter Gulch's Vegas Vickie, exemplifying everything that is Las Vegas. Kitsch, fun, carefree and silly. Videos are projected onto the canopy, too. Some last several minutes and run the gamut from 'The Drop', a psychedelic 'happening' ala the '60s, to 'Area 51', showing earthlings in battle with aliens. 'Above and Beyond' gives visitors a view of the Earth from outerspace, while 'Fahrenheit at Night' displays some of what Vegas is best known for: beautiful women.

There are dozens of shops, everything from small indoor venues to free standing kiosks. Many of the offerings are just what you'd expect - little trinkets that will break the first time your child goes to play with it. But there is the odd interesting item here and there. If nothing else you can grab a doughnut at Krispy Kreme and enjoy the sights from the outdoor patio. The canopy is 1,400 feet (about 1/4 of a mile), so you'll have plenty of opportunity to miss something interesting. Better plan to go twice, at least once when you're sober.

Spending greek holidays in chania

Chania is the second largest city of Crete, the largest of Greek Islands in the Mediterranean, with an estimated population of roughly 70000 people across its length and breadth. It lies along the northern Cretan coast and gets applauded for its tourism potential. The city consists of a typical Mediterranean weather with sunny dry summers and slightly moist and rainy winters. Thousands visit Chania every year to have a glimpse of its ancient past, and also to get a taste of its Mediterranean beaches and sea resorts. There are other alternatives available, apart from the usual hotel rooms for having accommodation in Chania, which includes self catering apartments and villas at affordable rates.

The city of Chania could be divided into two major townships, the old and the new ones; the latter being the larger and more developed of the two siblings. The old city, located next to the old harbor, acts as the foundation upon which the new urban infrastructure was developed during the modern era. The city was earlier protected with the old Venetian fortifications that were built around 1538 AD. The eastern and western remains of these fortifications could still be spotted even now. The old city and the areas surrounding it form the core of what we know as the city of Chania these days. The two cities merge into a single entity from the southern front; however they are divided by the sea barrier in the northern part. Many travelers prefer having accommodation in Chania at this scenic joint while they spend holidays in Greece.

The central part of old township is called Kasteli, and is believed to be inhabited by the humans since the Neolithic era. The area is geographically secure and conducive for the human settlements. The seafront next to it provides the right physical barrier and the nearby harbor and fertile valley in the southern area hand it over the needed sustenance. Despite having been partially destroyed in the World War II, the old township of Chania still gets regarded as the most beautiful of all the Cretan regions. Another region Splantzia is located next to Kasteli, and is equally appreciated for its serene backdrop. Some fresh development plans are being envisaged for this region now, which will also try to beef up the amount of accommodation in Chania.

The other sibling of the old Chania is the modern township, where most of Chania’s population resides and works for a living. There has been a substantial migration of the locals during the last two decades towards the modern suburbs and the rural areas surrounding them. Despite having been given the tag of modernity, the new areas of Chania could still be found having a good historical legacy to showcase to the outside world. This is because many new areas were developed during the last two centuries thus making it possible for some of the historic buildings to be preserved even today.

One can see therefore, why Chania was an ideal location for spending holidays in Greece. The place is full of historical sites and carries all the needed infrastructure for hosting the outside world. It's well connected with the mainland Greece and the rest of the world through various means. One can choose to stay in Chania therefore, while being on holidays in Greece.

dna diets junk science

Dieting and weight loss products and programs are such a big budget, big profit business today. We've all heard dozens of sales pitches for diet and weight loss products, plans, books, and other items that will supposedly help us miraculously lose that extra weight we've gained with the least amount of effort possible.

Each of these programs, books and products also usually tout themselves as being based "unique" and strongly backed science and technology.

These hyped diet aids range anywhere from diet supplements that claim to burn fat and/or blast calories away, help to suppress the appetite, or even help to block carbs and fat from even entering the blood stream and being stored as fat or extra weight. But how do we as consumers really know that any of this will actually work?

One of these so called scientifically based diet fads, which costs a fairly lofty sum of money, called the DNA Diet, has recently been in the news for allegedly preying on customers for astronomical sums of money. The company which sells this idea is currently under government investigation for misleading consumers.

The DNA "kits" the company sells online are for swabbing the inside of your mouth and sending it in for "DNA analysis", along with an accompanying recommendation for your personally tailored diet.

The cost may be anywhere from $499 to $1,000, and a full year of this diet advice and accompanying diet supplements can cost you upwards of $1,800.

Investigators say there is not even any scientific proof that this method of diet advice and supplementation or anyalysis works, further casting doubt on the companies that offer this service.

This particular company also offers expensive diet supplements which are mostly made of concentrated vitamins, some of which analysts claim may actually cause more harm than good due to their high dosages.

Not only that, analysis done on the supplements showed there was no difference in the formula even when different DNA was sent in, so the idea that the supplements themselves are "custom tailored" genetically is assumed to be false.

The investigators created fourteen fake customers and purchased the DNA analysis kits from four different websites. They filled out the accompnaying questionnaires with varied client information, such as different lifestyles, age brackets, etc,. All questionnaires were paired with the DNA sample of an infant girl and a grown male.

The advice varied greatly, the first sign this was an unreliable or simply fake analysis, and many of the pieces of advice received contained generalities such as smoking leads to heart disease and other already well known facts.

The investigation is ongoing, and there has been no announcement whether the company will be forced to close or change their methods and practices.

This is a perfect example of why a consumer must be vigilant when purchasing or researching any claims of diet products, or any other self improvement products for that matter. You never know when the next phony product might come along.

Is being attractive a career asset or liability

I don’t recall exactly how many girls turned me down when I asked them to the senior prom, but there were a few. Even though that was 25 years ago, I still remember how much I wished I was one of “the beautiful people”. Today, I’m glad I wasn’t. When I finally made it to the major leagues of my industry, two things immediately struck me.

The first was how accepting everyone was. People were amazingly supportive and oddly non-competitive. I later realized this came from their sense of security and accomplishment, since successful people don’t feel threatened by others who succeed. The second thing was that most of the powerful and famous people I met looked like ordinary average individuals, even though some of them get more for a one hour speech than many people pay for a house. This made me wonder how much one’s looks really impacts career success.

Being attractive can certainly help in the short term. Television news magazines such as 20/20 have conducted tests which confirm that society gives special consideration to attractive people. However, being so attractive that one draws excessive attention to him or herself can impede long term career success. Beauty can become the temporary crutch that some people try to keep leaning on long after it has been taken away. While attractive people can skate by on looks for a while, eventually beauty fades. They may then struggle when it’s gone and they can no longer charm people with their million dollar smile. Meanwhile, their average looking counterparts start to excel in their careers because their greatest assets – their job skills – are increasing.

This success principle of “what matters most is what’s on the inside” isn’t limited to work. It also applies to personal relationships. While the newest glamour couple here in my hometown of Nashville is the equally attractive Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, not every pretty woman goes for the handsome leading man look. Just look at Lyle Lovett, who married Julia Roberts in 1993, and Billy Bob Thornton, who married Angelina Jolie in 2000. Both Thornton and Lovett readily admit they don’t have Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise looks. The one thing they needed to get these beautiful women to say yes was the same thing that made their careers so successful – confidence.

So what’s the moral of this story? If you happen to be an ordinary average looking individual who’s competing against a job applicant or coworker who has drop dead gorgeous looks, don’t assume they have an advantage. It could turn out that looking average helps you become more than average in your career.

The internet - how do i connect

If you own a computer – and in today’s world who doesn’t – sooner or later, you will want to have access to the Internet.

The Internet for some is the Holy Grail of the modern age, and not having access to it is seen in some quarters as sacrilege.

But how do you connect to this Holy Grail – the Internet?

You need an Internet Service Provider or ISP who will give you access and you need to decide between dial-up service which uses a regular telephone line, and broadband service which, very often comes in the form of Cable, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), Satellite or T1 connections.

Do not get thrown off by all the computer talk. The option really is yours to decide on the type of service you need especially if you are working within a budget.

You must first determine what you will be using the Internet to do. If you will be checking email and accessing the Internet occasionally, then, you may need to consider dial-up service.

Dial-up service is cheap with a couple of disadvantages. It uses a telephone line to dial-in to the ISP’s network and when the connection is made, you are not able to take or make calls.

With dial-up service, you need to make sure that the ISP offers local numbers where you are located because you do not want to incur any long distance charges which can be expensive and unnecessary.

Additionally for dial-up, you will need to ensure that you have the right hardware to interface with the ISP’s network. You will need a modem for this service and these are not very expensive today.

If you have determined that dial-up service is not for you, then your choice is going to be one of the following: Cable, Satellite, DSL or T1.

Cable can be a good option because of its speed and the fact that you can receive a bundle of services at discounted rates depending on the provider you choose.

Some cable providers will have special pricing packages on Internet service if you sign-up for regular cable TV service as well. They will even give you, free of charge, antivirus software to protect you computer from being infected by viruses.

For a cable connection to work, you will need a network card and a cable modem. If you have a modern computer, a network card may already be installed as these are now being included as standard components in computer systems in recent years. You can buy a cable modem or your ISP may include one with the plan you choose.

Another option, DSL uses a telephone line for Internet access. Your local telephone company may offer this service or you may be able to obtain service from an independent provider who does not offer regular telephone service. Just check with providers in your area to see what is available.

DSL, like cable, is faster than dial-up, and like cable, actual connection speeds will vary depending on your location and how many persons are actually connected at the same time. You may want to verify how many persons in your area are being serviced by the same ISP to assist you in your decision making as to which provider to choose.

Satellite and T1 connections can be expensive but may be the option available to you depending on where you are located.

If you have to use a satellite connection, bear in mind that you will need satellite equipment for the system to work and you must have an unobstructed view of the southern sky.

One very important point to consider if you will be using a broadband connection is that your computer will always be connected to the Internet unless you turn your system off. You will therefore need to protect your system by installing a firewall and antivirus software.

Ultimately, the final decision is yours. The good thing is you have choices so do some research before you buy.
